First Road trip

So being a new parent is a challenge in it self, but trying to be one on the road takes the game to a whole NEW level. I was telling my wife that its easy to change diapers, feed, and do the routines in the comfort of your home, but when your on the road and have limited resources; that's when you separate the amateurs from the pros.

My wife and I both love travelling and was not going to let having a baby stop us. So we decided to do something small, a 3 hour drive to Austin for the weekend to test the waters. We also decided to take our 13yr old niece. I must say, we did a good job and basically got everything we wanted to do and more. Keep in mind, I consider going out to eat and event. Some may laugh but trust me when you have a 2 month old, it is an adventure.

Itinerary:

  • Went shopping at the Domain (Outdoor Mall in North Austin)
  • Ate Lunch at Downtown Burgers (Burger joint in a trailer)
  • Ate Dinner at Magnolia Cafe (Brushetta comes HIGHLY recommended)
  • Went swimming at the Hotel Pool (Niece and I, baby's a tad young...just a tad)
  • Hung out at Barton Springs (I wanted to go swimming there too, but we were kinda pooped)
  • After hanging out in the hotel, went out to a Crepe shop and got dessert for a night cap
  • Woke up and ate a good FREE hotel breakfast (highlight of the trip for my wife, cause its FREE)
  • Walked SOCO (South Congress, although it was BLISTERing HOT)
  • Ate at Wahoos (Don't recommend that place
  • Had coffee and dessert at Mozart's (Love that place and the view)

It's really just managing our schedules around the baby's feedings which make things a lot smoother. I was pretty impressed with my wife, she's definitely a PRO. She handled everything and anything that came up out of the blue. Overall, I really enjoyed the trip and its not like we did anything special at all but it IS Austin (love that place!).
